No More Room in Hell 2 Voice Chat Guide

Configure proximity voice chat, find your current talk button, and fix microphone input, permissions, mute, and range problems.

Quick answer

  • 1Push-to-Talk is the default voice transmission mode.
  • 2Check the current voice binding in Controls because it can be rebound.
  • 3Proximity chat only carries your voice to Responders within audible range.
  • 4Use the transmit indicator, device test, and OS permissions to isolate mic failures.

Set Up Voice Chat and Find the Current Button

Open the audio and voice settings, enable voice chat, and choose how your microphone transmits. Push-to-Talk is the default mode. Then open Controls and read the current voice-chat binding shown for your input device.

Use the binding displayed in your own Controls menu. Voice controls can be rebound, and controller layouts differ from keyboard layouts, so an old fixed-key list can send you to the wrong button. If the current binding conflicts with another action, assign a key or button you can hold while moving.

Watch for the on-screen transmitting indicator when you press the talk control. The indicator confirms that the game received your transmission input; it does not guarantee that a distant Responder is close enough to hear it.

How Proximity Voice Works

In-game voice is proximity-based. Nearby Responders can hear your calls, while speech from outside the allowed range should not be audible. Use short, specific calls as you approach another player, then repeat the important information after the team closes distance.

Joining a squad helps identify and organize teammates, but it does not turn proximity chat into unlimited map-wide radio. If a squad member stops hearing you after the group splits, regroup before changing device settings.

The social controls also allow individual players to be muted. If one teammate is silent while everyone else works, check the mute state for that player before changing the entire voice setup.

Fix a Microphone That Teammates Cannot Hear

Work through the checks in this order:

  1. Stand close to a teammate and hold the current talk binding while speaking.
  2. Confirm that the transmitting indicator appears.
  3. Check that voice chat is enabled and the input volume is high enough.
  4. On PC, run Steam's microphone test and confirm that Steam is using the intended input device.
  5. In Windows privacy settings, enable microphone access and desktop-app microphone access.
  6. Check the in-game social panel for an accidental mute.
  7. Close and restart the game after changing the default input device or permissions.

If the microphone test works and the game shows a transmit indicator, test again with a nearby teammate in a fresh session. If it still fails, verify the game files and send a report through the official support option in the game menu.
