Account Progress and Responder Progress
No More Room in Hell 2 has two connected progression layers. Your account opens more gear and skill options over time. Each Responder develops an individual set of levels, skills, loadout choices, and achievements while surviving missions.
| Layer | What belongs to it | What happens when one Responder dies |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Account level, unlocked access, Credits, cosmetics, weekly Assignment progress | Remains available |
| Responder | Character level, selected skills, personal loadout investment, Nightmare Tokens | Lost if permadeath applies |
Your account opens options; your Responder carries the risk. A high account level can equip a fresh recruit more effectively, but it does not preserve the levels and skills of a Responder who is permanently lost.
How Each Progression Resource Works
Account XP
Account XP comes from mission participation and objectives. It is awarded even if the Responder dies or fails to extract. Raising the account level expands access to gear and skills and serves as the broad measure of long-term progress.
Character XP and Skills
Character XP is awarded at the end of a match based on extraction and supplies gathered. As the Responder levels, new perk choices shape that character's role. Credits can also be used to reroll or improve skill choices when the relevant menu allows it.
Supplies and Credits
Supplies directly determine Credit rewards. A full extraction counts supplies carried by extracting players and supplies placed in the team pool. Spend Credits on starting loadout items, skills, and customization. Character-level requirements were removed from loadout items in 1.0, so account access and available Credits control more of the investment decision.
Weekly Assignments and Merits
Four weekly Assignments reset on Tuesdays. Three offer one Merit alongside Credits, and the overarching weekly goal offers three more Merits. Merits provide another way to unlock cosmetics and buy the Rescue Beacon, which protects a Responder from the next instance of character loss where permadeath is active.
Death Risk and Major Milestones
Permadeath removes the affected Responder's individual levels, skills, loadout investment, and per-Responder Nightmare Tokens. Account level, general unlock access, and account resources remain available for the next recruit.
Risk depends on the difficulty and mission state:
| Difficulty | When the Responder can be permanently lost |
|---|---|
| Beginner | A team wipe before a respawn point, or death after extraction is called |
| Normal | A team wipe before a respawn point, or death after extraction is called |
| Hard | From the moment the Responder spawns |
| Nightmare | From the moment the Responder spawns |
Responder progression extends through level 100. Levels 75 and 100 add the two extra perk slots introduced with the expanded progression track. These milestones reward keeping a developed character alive, but higher difficulty also puts that investment under greater risk.
Solo Mode sits outside this loop. It has no traditional progression and no permadeath, so use it for map learning and build practice rather than account or Responder advancement.
An Efficient Progression Plan
- Use early account levels to learn on Beginner and Normal while building a Credit reserve.
- Invest enough starting gear to solve your Responder's role without spending the whole reserve on one run.
- Prioritize full extraction and shared supplies when you want both Character XP and Credits.
- Complete weekly Assignments for the limited Merit income.
- Move a developed Responder into Hard or Nightmare only when the loadout and team plan justify the permanent-loss risk.
- Consider a Rescue Beacon before risking a valuable Responder in a high-pressure mission.
